The British Soap Awards 2017

British Soap Awards 2017

On Tuesday 6 June the British Soap Awards aired on our television screens via ITV1, 8.00pm until 10.00pm. The awards were held at The Lowry Theatre in Salford.

Host Phillip Schofield was joined by an audience full of stars from Coronation Street, Doctors, Emmerdale, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks.

The ceremony has celebrated the acting talents across the nation in all of the British soap operas. Some win more awards than others but for me, it’s all about having each soap opera in the room together to celebrate the success of one another.

The question that runs through everyone’s mind of course is, ‘Who will win the Best British Soap Award?’

As all of the glamorous stars await the results, we are taken through a number of categories from Best Newcomer to Most Dramatic Performance.

There have been several popular storylines this year which personally, have been delivered with amazing research and emotion behind them. The top three storylines which have kept me engaged in particular are:

  • Kym Marsh’s portrayal of a mother who lost their child due to a still birth in Coronation Street
  • I don’t watch Emmerdale as frequently but Ashley’s portrayal of life with dementia was absolutely phenomenal
  • Jade and Alfie’s cancer story in Hollyoaks – tears were strolling down my face. They were a young couple who shared such a beautiful relationship. Alfie not wanting to let go was truly heart-breaking

Such storylines happen in real life and when they are portrayed so wonderfully, that is something special for the actors and the whole cast for the support they give to one another. It’s good when soap operas give us a representation of something that has affected many people in a certain year of events.

The evening was highly successful for Emmerdale and they very well deserved the Best British Soap Award.

An incredible year from Emmerdale – Phillip Schofield

We have seen many other dramatic scenes across the year such as Kylie’s death in Coronation Street, Moira losing Holly in Emmerdale, Ellie and Nick’s consent story, and Nico’s killing spree in Hollyoaks, and Phil’s alcoholism in EastEnders.
