This year I am thankful for many things. It hasn’t been the worst year of my life; unfortunately it may have been for some. Daniel might have had his wallet taken yesterday which had our Christmas money in it, bank cards, driver’s license etc. but we will still blame ourselves. Truth is we don’t expect things to happen but sometimes they do. You hear about things happening but you don’t always expect them to happen to you.
This is nothing in comparison to real tragedies happening in the world. Some people may have lost their loved ones; it could be another year that doesn’t get any easier for those that have lost their loved ones in a previous year. I for one can say that we never forget our loved ones.
Why am I grateful?
There are people in the world that will have been battling illnesses and other personal matters.
A lesson I continuously learn in life is that, people are not always being the people you thought they were. And these people can also be the ones which are able to make out as though you’re not the person they thought you were. Take a good look at yourself and realise that, you know yourself, perhaps not as good as some of the special people in your life know you, but you know what’s true and what’s not.
Other people’s perceptions of you shouldn’t define you. If people don’t want you in their life, don’t force them to be in yours.
This year has been a year of much reflection – not everyone has a heart, not everyone has the guts to be honest, but there are the wonderful bunch of people in your life whose loyalty and love is worth more than anybody else’s.
No amount of money is worth the amount of happiness that these people bring into my life. Daniel and I were more hurt and frustrated that people have the urge to steal something which does not belong to them. The most important thing is that we are grateful to have each other and no amount of money can come between us. We could have won the lottery and lost it and still want to make sure the other is okay.
All of that being said here are the things which I have been most thankful for in 2016…
A roof above my head
One that’s a home. There’s a bed, warmth, and a loving family. That’s something to be grateful for.
I’ve had the luxury of food and drink that not everybody has in the world. I’ve been relatively healthy. I probably need to exercise more but I’m thankful for my healthy state of mind and physicality.
There have been quite a new which have all lead to new opportunities. The biggest of all has been achieving a role as a Marketing Assistant and experiencing life in full-time employment.
Many celebrities have passed away this year and there will have been relatives and friends of other people around the world. I am lucky and blessed to still have my parents and brothers by my side amongst my other closest family members. Of course, I include my best friend as my family.
He’s my family too. But I put him separate on this list because there are many occasions which he has been for me yet again when I haven’t even asked him to be. Another year has passed where our love has grew stronger to the point where we’ve said once again, you know me so well.
Spending as much time as possible with my niece
Another that falls under family. But time with my niece is extra special. We only get to see her on a weekend so every opportunity is important. We took her bowling this year for the first time and I was filled with so much happiness watching her dance around with excitement. She’s a little girl who brings so much light into all of our lives.
A nephew brought into my life
Katie, Daniel’s sister, had a little boy named John Michael Brereton. He has made us all smile so much already. It’s always lovely to see a new life entering the world, but this was extra special for Katie and John. Today is the day of Katie and Daniel’s nana’s birthday and their nana and grandad’s wedding anniversary. So December is a month of all kinds of emotions. But above all, we are grateful to be around those we love.
Thank you to everyone who has made me smile and laugh this year. Thank you to those who have even brought a little upset into my life – I’m a much stronger and better person than you think.
What are you grateful for?
