National Day of Encouragement

Today is a national day where we spread happiness and positivity to one another. It is a day where we can encourage others to make goals, give them the confidence to do something they’ve always wanted to do, or simply motivate someone with a kind, small gesture.

Think about your day today. Did you encourage a colleague at work? Did you encourage any of your friends at school, college, or university? Did you encourage anyone?

Smile and others will follow.

If you like something that someone has done today, tell them. If you are proud of someone, tell them. If we all participate in these kind of motions, we can build each other up together. And being a positive role model can help bring out the strength in people more than you think.

Even if you sat at home alone today. There’s always something that you can be encouraged to do or something to encourage someone else to do. Try to turn your down in the dumps day to a day where you believe more is possible. Have a positive outlook which helps you reach more possibilities and dream big.

To encourage others – show them that you care. Show them that you genuinely share an interest in what they do even if it isn’t something that you have particularly been interested in before. When you take the time to learn about others, it shows that time isn’t a barrier. Likewise, when people invest time in you, you realise just how much attention they are actually paying towards you.

Today I wanted to take initiative and I think did with some tasks at work. I’m still getting into the swing of things. But in life, there are always going to be changes, new environments, and new people. Encourage yourself to adjust to these changes. But don’t change yourself. If you’ve made it to where you are today, you’ve come a long way.

Even when there’s something which majorly affects you in a negative way, don’t change yourself. You can become stronger and brighter, but this doesn’t mean that you should change the inner you.

Be encouraged to see that the outside of a person doesn’t tell all. You know how some people believe that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, well, I believe the same goes for a person.

I remember when I used to watch The Wizard of Oz when I was younger. I would sit in front of the television, without knowing what courage really was back then. Cowardly Lion became a stronger person both inside and out with his courage. I now know what it feels like to have courage, to need courage, and to be inspired by the courage of others.

Be truthful, be you, do something good today and encourage someone.

  1. I didn’t know that there even was such a thing as this day! I think I did okay though – a child asked me if we could make parrots, so we did and a whole bunch of other people joined us so now we’re going to create a jungle display and another child came up with 2 strategies for dealing with his unkind brother. So I think there was much encouragement going on in my room today 🙂

  2. Thanks for this. It is always good to remind ourselves to continue to grow. And one way to do this is to uplift each other! Thanks for the reminder. You’re doing an awesome job, never forget that!

  3. I’d never heard of this day -but what a good idea! Now I’m off to belatedly encourage people in all things!
