Aspirations and Happiness

Many people from a professional field or in general might ask you: “Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?”

This question obviously has a lot of value as it illustrates your attributions to life and to the workplace and how ambitious you want to be. For some people, the question could not matter as they prefer to have more spontaneity in their lives rather than a set plan.

Me, myself, I have always had goals which I have reached and some I have not reached in life, but I would rather ask myself the question, “How far have you come in the past five years?”

Noticing your strengths and weaknesses over a period of time for me, is the key to finding out who you are and what you really aspire in life. I would like to develop both personally and professionally, of course this means a progressive career but I also believe that the pride of your family and friends is what highlights your positive attitude and willingness to learn more.

I have learnt that you can put yourself out there hence my numerous, daily job applications which have been submitted. Also, maybe I should have created this blog and my website whilst at university… that does not matter though.

What matters is that, I know I am capable of getting where I want to be, I just have to keep my persistence and faith to show employers and myself that I am a dedicated individual.

I have a degree, I have some work experience but most of all, I have learnt not be negative about not attaining my desired grade as I know that I put all of my effort into university while attending my work experience and part-time work (where I have been a loyal employee for the past five years).

Without question, I show more initiative today than I did five years ago. I finished school and began working at Manchester United Megastore as a cashier. I did the small, occasional shift but in time I began to be available more for work which lead to a progressive role to sales floor.

Here, I grew a lot more confidence and I started to interact more with people and customers from all kinds of cultures. I dealt with a lot more challenging situations, which lead to me to believe that I have become a much more perseverance and determination to help others.

Now, when I think about the work I have studied in media over the past seven years, I can honestly say I chose the right path regardless of the impatience it can cause at times when finding the right job.

I think about when I have been approached by MUTV and Premier League Productions in work for filming and I would be quite timid and reluctant to being in front of the camera.

However, today, I realise that when I eventually did agree to it, it was the right thing to do. I have surprised myself in that, I said I never wanted to be in front of the camera but I enjoyed it.

I can only hope that the future brings me as much happiness as the past five years have.
